Fun Aquatic Competitions For Your Son's Birthday

Marine fish and their environment may be what your son has been raving about lately. If he considers sharks as tough predators of the "underwater world", imagine his surprise when you throw him an "Under The Sea" birthday party next month. Use kids plush shark pillows as the main component of each aquatic-themed game that you prepare for your child and his guests.

Hot Potato

Hot potato is a classic game that keeps youngsters on their toes, as they try to quickly get rid of the item that will deem them the loser. Use a plush shark pillow in place of a standard potato. Explain the rules to the children, in case they have never participated in a standard rendition of the game. Play music during each round and instruct the children to pass the pillow around. When you stop the music, whoever is holding the pillow will be eliminated.

Once there are only two contenders left, allow them to participate in one final round. Tell whoever is left holding the pillow at the end of the music, to exchange the item with their competitor. This person will be deemed the winner. Allow them to keep the pillow as their prize.

Seek and Conquer

Use one shark pillow as the target. Divide the children up into two teams. instruct the team members to stand along opposite sides of a room. Place the pillow in the central part of the playing area. Upon the blow of a whistle or your verbalization, the children are to attempt to retrieve the shark pillow.

Award one point for each retrieval. After a team has successfully reached a certain score, use slips of paper to write each child's name on. Place all of the slips of paper in a container and draw one slip to select a winner. Give the shark pillow to that child.

Puppet Show

Purchase several plush pillows that resemble sea creatures. Set up an area where a puppet show can be held. Use a large cardboard box or a sturdy surface to represent the bottom of the viewing area. Ask the children if they would like to participate in a live show, which involves observing and listening to sea creatures. Pick several children to act as the voices of the creatures and request that the remainder of the children stay seated, so that they can watch the performance.

Allow the children to improvise and provide a voice for each shark, fish, or additional sea creature that is being utilized. At the end of the show, use a drawing to determine who will keep each pillow that was part of the presentation.
